Sustainable Construction

IBSF is committed to the design and delivery of green construction projects, which combine a low carbon construction footprint, low energy consumption and reduced operating costs.

SUSTAINABLE
EMERGING CITY UNIT (SECU)

The SECU building design is an example of a load-bearing two-storey strawboard structure. It was constructed in 2012 at the EiABC university campus in Addis Ababa and serves as seminar rooms for the University.

CENTRE FOR SUSTAINABLE
CONSTRUCTION (CSC)

The CSC is a joint project of IBS Foundation and Makerere University, Kampala and has been designed to suit local climatic conditions and to minimise energy consumption. Construction will commence in 2020 and the selection of locally manufactured green materials will have a positive impact on rural communities and livelihoods.
The CSC project is supported by KfW/DEG, Zero Carbon Designs, Fischer Architekten, and the German Federal Institute for Material Research and Testing (BAM).
